The U.S. Gulf Coast should keep an eye on possible tropical development in the northwest Caribbean and southern Gulf next week.

Should the system develop, forecasters said a tropical depression could form as the system moves slowly to the north or northwest into the southern Gulf of Mexico through the end of next week. Rodney Wynn, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Tampa office, said forecasting models don’t have a good grip on the system yet.

The WLOX First Alert Weather Team is watching for possible tropical development in the Caribbean next week. The National Hurricane Center has highlighted an area in the northwest Caribbean where an area of low pressure may become more organized.
