The list includes classics and newer favorites that were removed or discontinued in Florida K-12 schools during the 2023-2024 school year.

More than 700 books were removed from Florida school library shelves for the 2023-24 school year, according to the state Department of Education. But the department claims no books are banned.

Under HB 1069, a 2023 law that bans Florida schools from having books that depict or describe "sexual conduct" or "is inappropriate for the grade level and age group for which the material is used," library books can be removed in response to an objection raised by the parent of a student or a resident of the county where the district is located.

In November, as required by state statute, the Florida Department of Education released a list of around 700 books that were "removed or discontinued" from public schools during the 2023-2024 school year by one of Florida's school boards in response to an objection raised by a parent of a student in the school district or a resident of the county where the school district is located.
